Strong Egypt Student Movement rejects police presence in front of university gates

The Strong Egypt Student Movement has rejected cabinet’s decision to place police forces in front of gates of universities to make sure elements from outside the universities do not enter campus and cause problems.

The movement issued a statement on Thursday saying that the Supreme Council of Universities is the only authority that can decide on this matter.

The statement also said that the decision undermines the independence of universities and the will of the students that have rejected such situation under the rule of Mubarak, and pointed to a court ruling in 2010 disallowing the presence of a university guard.

The statement requested the administrations to use private security companies with trained personnel that know how to deal with riots.
