Hundreds of state media workers opened the corniche in front of the state TV building at Maspero Sunday evening, after blocking it in protest to proposed salary cuts.
State TV management had proposed to reduce salaries of administrators and programs staff from 40 percent to 60 percent, leading workers to threat to cut off some channels’ transmission this Wednesday.
Nasser Abdel Wahab, specialized channels sector spokesperson, said the decision was distributed within the building and said it would be applied to all sectors, which has increased anger among workers.
Abdel Wahab said demonstrations would continue until the decision is canceled, or else they would resort to what he called “civil disobedience.”
News outlets have previously reported that state TV faces mounting debt.
