Egypt has become a global sports hub capable of hosting major tournaments and mega sporting events thanks to presidential directives to develop the country’s infrastructure across all sectors, including the sports industry, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi said.
With its world-class sport infrastructure, Egypt has hosted 422 international, continental, and Arab tournaments recently, which resulted in great returns on the sports and tourism levels, Sobhi added in a statement released by the ministry on Saturday 13/04/2024.
At the Arab and African level, Egypt ranked 1st out of 608 countries on the index for global sporting impact, ending up in the 72nd position worldwide, the minister pointed out, noting that Egyptian athletes clinched over 3,430 medals in international, continental, and Arab championships recently.
In addition, up to 350 Egyptian Paralympic athletes competed in various tournaments, grabbing 584 medals, Sobhi said, highlighting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s material and moral support to Egyptian athletes.
Sobhi said the ministry is working on building strong bridges between the government and Egyptian athletes, while providing them with all that it takes to improve the sports industry in Egypt, which hosts 24 African sports federations and 15 Arab sports federations.
