Spokesperson denounces websites for disputing military capabilities

The Egyptian army spokesperson has denounced social networking pages which, he said, have questioned  the capabilities of the military and attempted to shake the people's confidence in their army.

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali said on his Facebook page Tuesday that some websites have posted false reports about six Israeli F-36 aircraft violating the Egyptian airspace and given wrong information about air force operations.

Ali had told citizens Monday that blasts heard in four Egyptian governorates, including Cairo, were caused by Egyptian military aircraft breaking the sound barrier while testing an air defense system.

But a Facebook page titled "Officers for the Revolution" rejected Ali's statement, arguing that the Air Force does not conduct drills or tests during official holidays, and adding that military rules prohibit air force drills above populated areas. The page accused the military leadership of failing to protect Egypt's airspace.
