Cairo University preserved its ranking within the best 500 universities in world, according to Webometrics ranking, coming in the 358 place.
The university ranked first among Egyptian universities, the second in Africa after the University of Cape Town in South Africa and also the second in the Arab world after King Saud University.
Webometrics is a Spanish index that classifies universities based on technical and scientific studies. The ranking is carried out every six months in January and July and it evaluates the best universities in the world in publishing academic studies on the internet.
"The presence of Cairo University in the January and July 2014 editions is a first in years," said Gaber Nassar, the university president. "It highlights the efforts by the university in registering the scientific research of the faculty members and linking it to the internet."
Gamal Essmat, university vice-president for research and higher studies affairs, said the university is working on developing the necessary electronic services in order to provide the scientific studies by faculty members on the university's website.
