South Sinai Governorate denies rumors of Saint Catherine evacuation plan, assures no threat

The South Sinai Governorate has categorically denied circulating rumors suggesting any threats to Saint Catherine’s Monastery or plans to evacuate it.

Governor of South Sinai, Khaled Mubarak emphasized the strong ties with the administration of Saint Catherine’s Monastery and both parties’ commitment to ongoing cooperation for the common good and strengthening their deep historical and cultural bonds.

The Governor of South Sinai recently received a letter of gratitude and affection from the head of Saint Catherine’s Monastery, expressing his appreciation for the close relationship with the governorate and mentioning that he was out of the country for medical reasons.

He assured the governor that he would resume cooperation and meetings as soon as his health improved.

There has been frequent communication and numerous meetings between the Governor of South Sinai, monastery officials, and the Greek Ambassador. These meetings reflect the shared commitment to continued cooperation and supporting efforts to protect the monastery’s cultural and religious heritage, as it is an important historical and religious symbol.

The South Sinai Governorate has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Saint Catherine’s Monastery and all the archaeological and religious landmarks in the governorate, striking a balance between development and heritage preservation.
