Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inspected on Sunday morning the construction site of the development project at the Suez Canal, sources in the presidency and the Suez Canal Authority said.
Sisi spoke with Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish, discussing the latest updates on the project.
The president also held talks with Kamel al-Wazeer, the head of the army engineering authority overseeing the digging of the project, after which Sisi toured the digging site.
On August 5, Sisi launched the mega project, which aims to minimise the amount of time ships spend crossing the Suez Canal, a vital waterway which brings billions of dollars in revenue annually.
The project entails expanding the current waterway, digging a parallel canal as well as developing the canal region.
Egypt intends to complete the master plan of the project before a major economic conference to attract investment, due to be held in March.
