Unknown gunmen assassinated on Tuesday Major General Mohamed al-Saeed, head of Interior Ministry’s technical office.
Security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that unknown elements killed Saeed in front of his house in al-Talbeya area in Haram district.
The ministry said in a statement that efforts have intensified to arrest the criminals.
Several shots were fired toward Saeed, who received one of them at the head. He passed away on arrival at the nearest hospital, the sources added.
The criminals were on a motorbike, security sources said.
Policemen have been targeted by terrorists since ouster of ex-President Mohamed Morsy in July 2013. Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim was also targeted in an assassination attempt in early September in Nasr City.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Mabrouk was also killed in November in Nasr City. Mabrouk was a top prosecution witness in the lawsuit accusing deposed President Mohamed Morsy and other Muslim Brotherhood figures of escaping from Wadi al-Natrun prison during the 25 January revolution.
