Sources: Ethiopia’s intransigence threatens Renaissance Dam negotiations for the fourth time

Informed sources said that Addis Ababa still adheres to its position regarding the consultation office that would carry out studies for the Renaissance Dam, without any consideration of the time factor, and while continuing to build the dam, which threatens the negotiations for the fourth time and impedes what was agreed upon last August in Khartoum.

They said Cairo has called for an urgent meeting in Khartoum to agree on a solution that would satisfy both sides, but Addis Ababa rejected the meeting, preferring to waste time than to put an end to the problem.

The sources pointed out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he is visiting Ethiopia at the end of this month and at the same time President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is visiting it in order to easen the dispute between Cairo and Addis Ababa, which indicates that Turkey is playing a suspicious role.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb signed a document protecting the Nile River from infringement.
