Sources at the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood said a number of group leaders met on Thursday in Turkey and rejected the initiative of Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, chairman of the Strong Egypt Party, which proposes that the group completely renounce its power.
The sources said the reason for the rejection was because it was not clear what the government would offer the group in return if they agreed to the proposal.
They added that Aboul Fotouh had met with the leaders in Jordan to persuade them to run in the parliamentary elections within an Islamist alliance led by the Strong Egypt Party and funded by the Brotherhood international organization.
For his part, Rahil Gharaiba, former head of the Brotherhood Political Bureau in Jordan, said that Aboul Fotouh did not propose that the international organization should be dissolved.

He added in a statement that Aboul Fotouh said what happened in Egypt was a coup against the group, although he had disagreed with them on fielding Mohamed Morsy in the presidential elections.
Abdel Latif Arabiat, the former head of the Brotherhood Shura Council in Jordan, said Aboul Fotouh called him two weeks ago and told him he was coming to Amman at the invitation of the Union of Jordanian doctors in his capacity as former secretary-general of the Arab Doctors Union, but did not present any initiative.
Strong Egypt Party spokesperson Ahmed Imam said Aboul Fotouh’s meeting with the Brotherhood in Jordan was a private visit.
Former Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Habib said the Strong Egypt Party is closer to the Brotherhood than any other political group.
