Source: Mubarak’s heart working efficiently

Hosni Mubarak's health remains stable, an official source said on Monday.

State-run new agency MENA quoted the source as saying a recent scan put the former president's cardiac muscle efficiency at 70 percent. The source explained that the normal rate ranges between 55 and 60 percent.

The source said Mubarak’s psychological condition has deteriorated, resulting in weight loss, and that news of a decision to try him in South Sinai had a negative impact on him and his wife, Suzanne.

On Sunday, the head of the medical team observing Mubarak denied statements by the latter's lawyer, Farid al-Deeb, that his client had gone into a coma.

Mubarak has been in police custody at a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh since April, due to alleged poor health. He is charged with murdering protesters during the January uprising. He also faces corruption charges.
