Source: Mubarak did not prepare apology speech

A source close to the Mubarak family has denied earlier press reports that deposed President Hosni Mubarak has been planning to apologize publicly to the Egyptian people for crimes he and his family committed, or to relinquish all his assets and those of his family to the state.

The source said that Mubarak, by recording an apology for broadcast on satellite news channels, as reported, would be admitting that he had comitted crimes and would be brought to trial, whereas he and his wife still deny all the charges that have been leveled at them.

The source said that the law still punishes perpetrators of crimes even if they admit to them and ask for parole, which is another reason why reports about Mubarak’s planned apology must be false.
