A security officer was shot dead Wednesday morning by unknown gunmen south of Rafah, North Sinai, security sources said.
The attack took place in the Al-Husseinat region, near the borders with the Palestinian Gaza Strip, the sources added.
Sinai has seen a series of bloody attacks on security and army forces since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Islamist militant groups had claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights says 700 army and police officer have been killed since June 2013.
