Soldier, 25 militants killed in North Sinai on Wednesday

A soldier was killed and two others were wounded when their vehicle was hit by a mortar missile in North Sinai on Wednesday, security sources said.

The attack was attributed to the pro-Islamic State militia, the Sinai Province, which engaged in violent clashes with the army two weeks ago, claiming responsibility for many deadly attacks against security forces since 2013.

The attack came during a wide-scale security raid in the restive Sheikh Zuweid region.

Army forces killed 25 militants who attempted to target a military checkpoint in the same area, sources added. Fifteen militants were arrested during the army incursions.

On the same day, a lady and her seven-and nine-year-old children were wounded, when a missile landed on their house south of Rafah.
