Several new candidates have announced their intentions to run for the upcoming presidential elections, including current Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Former parliamentarian Ahmed al-Tantawi also announced his intention to run for the presidency, alongside the head of the Wafd Party Abdel-Sanad Yamama, the head of the Republican People’s Party Hazem Omar, the head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party Farid Zahran, and politician Gameela Ismail.
Notary offices in Cairo and the governorates continue to receive submissions from those who wish to issue powers of attorney for the candidates for the position of President of the Republic in 2024, to be submitted to the National Elections Authority.
The National Elections Authority (NEA) revealed the date for holding the presidential elections in December, during the period from December 10 to December 12.
The timetable included the opening dates for candidacy, as the NEA invited those wishing to run and meet the conditions to submit their nomination papers at the authority’s headquarters, starting from October 5 until October 14.
The first period of propaganda silence for Egyptians abroad begins on the two days preceding polling day, until 12 midnight local time for each country.
The authority has set three days for Egyptians abroad to vote, from December 1-3, with voting starting from nine am until nine pm at each country’s time.
Elections in Egypt begin on December 10, with the election results being announced on December 18.
Sisi announced his intention to run for a new term as president of Egypt, during the Story of a Nation conference.
“Just as I responded to the call of the Egyptians before, today, I respond to their call again. I am determined to nominate myself for you, to complete the dream of a new presidential term,” he said.
