Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi revealed his country’s position on the One China policy, following China’s outrage over the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
In his speech at the Military Academy on Saturday, Sisi said, “In our foreign policy… we have constants in our policy that do not change, and we are always keen to be supportive to regional and international stability.”
“We have a consistent policy towards the situation in Taiwan, and Egypt always with China being one country, because this is in the interest of stability and security in the world. In fact, we do not need more crises than that affect us all.”
China fired missiles, on Thursday, and flew its fighters over Taiwan for the first time, as part of its response to Pelosi’s visit to the self-ruled island that Beijing considers part of its territory.
The US said that Beijing is exaggerating in its military response.
Beijing announced the suspension of cooperation with Washington on key issues, including talks between defense leaders and coordination on immigration, international crime, illegal drugs and climate change talks.
