President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi Saturday received a telephone call from UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said they probed the latest developments in Sudan, as President Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep concern over the negative consequences as regards stability of Sudan which is passing through a critical moment in history that requires the highest degree of wisdom and self-restraint.
He called on the Sudanese parties to give priority to dialogue and the national consensus and to uphold the higher interests of the brotherly Sudanese people, the spokesman added.
The UN Chief asserted keenness on communicating with President Sisi in light of the active and pivotal role played by Egypt in maintaining security and stability in the region, especially with regard supporting the transitional path in Sudan, he said.
He called on all Sudanese parties to stop hostilities, restore calm and start dialogue to resolve the current crisis, pointing out that the escalation of the fighting will lead to a catastrophic impact on civilians and exacerbate the tough humanitarian situation in Sudan, he added.
