Sisi on one-day visit to Uganda

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi headed to Uganda on Sunday for a one-day official visit.

The visit comes in response to an invitation from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, according to presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef. It targets talks with the president and senior Ugandan officials over boosting bilateral ties. The talks will also tackle several African issues of joint interest.

Museveni, who is 71 years of age, has ruled the east African country for the past 30 years. He won the February presidential election with 60 percent of the vote and was sworn in for a new term on May 1, according to Reuters news agency.

Sisi and Museveni will hold talks at the presidential palace in Entebbe.

The talks will cover fostering bilateral cooperation in different fields, including economic and trade, in addition to the possibility of increasing the volume of bilateral trade exchange between the two countries.

Establishing more joint projects in Uganda will be mulled, given that several Egyptian firms are already working in various fields in Uganda.

Several regional and African issues of joint interest will be discussed, in light of efforts by Museveni to boost peace and security in the Nile Basin region and in Africa as a whole, Youssef added.

The two leaders will discuss enhancing safety and security in Africa; and means of reaching political compromise in the crises currently ongoing in several African nations.

The two presidents are scheduled to hold a joint press conference at the end of their talks.
