The Egyptian ambassador to India Wael Hamed revealed the details behind Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Egypt and his meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, where they discussed matters of cooperation and partnership.
In a telephone interview with Al-Hadath Al-Youm satellite channel, Hamed said that the Indian PM’s visit to Egypt showcases the importance Egypt holds as India is the top fourth country in the world in terms of military capabilities, and fifth in terms of economic capabilities.
President Sisi previously visited India in 2016, he added, first for bilateral purposes. He then visited India at the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister as a guest of honor for their celebration of Republic Day.
Hamed explained that five months after this visit, the Indian Prime Minister visited Egypt at the invitation of President Sisi.
Hamed added that President Sisi was elected to the presidential post in 2014, around the same time the Indian Prime Minister assumed his position. Since that year the two countries have been moving in the same direction in terms of social and economic development and keeping pace with economic development, while they faced the same challenges, he pointed out.
