Washington will invite President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the American-African summit scheduled in August after Egypt restored its African Union membership, sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
A presidency source said Sisi has yet to receive the invitation.
If Sisi does not receive an official invitation to attend the summit 15 days before the date of the session, he will not attend, the sources added. Egypt's foreign minister will replace Sisi in this case.
Items on the agenda include Africa's economy, food crisis, investment, peace and security.
According to the diplomatic sources, Sisi's participation in the summit does not necessarily mean that he will meet with the US president since the aim of the visit is to discuss African issues.
