Sisi meets Blair in Cairo over situation in Gaza

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received, Saturday, the envoy of the Middle East Quartet Tony Blair in Cairo to discuss the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
 
Foreign Minister Sameh Shokry also attended the meeting.
 
Presidential spokesperson Ehab Badawy said the meeting tackled the escalation of events in Gaza.
 
Current Egyptian efforts seek to stop military operations, Badawy said, adding that both the Israeli and Palestinian sides showed stubbornness and intransigence.
 
Sisi warned during the meeting of the risk of military escalation which would cause the killing of innocent civilians.
 
Sisi stressed the solidarity of Egypt with the brotherly Palestinian people, and its desire to contribute to providing humanitarian their needs, by opening the Rafah crossing for the wounded, Badawy added.
 
Badawy pointed out that Blair mentioned that escalation would not be in favor if both sides and would lead to more civilian victims. Blair also called for self-restraint and responding to efforts of pacification.
