President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has invited Saudi Arabia King Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz to a conference gathering friends of Egypt to support the country laboring against economic hardships and security instability over the past few years.
Sisi, in an interview published Tuesday with Saudi newspaper Okaz, said Egypt and Saudi Arabia are coordinating together to hold a successful conference for the “brothers and friends” of Egypt.
The president said the most outstanding projects to be discussed in the conference is the development of the Suez Canal region, which, he explained, is different from his major project which seeks to dredge a parallel canal in Suez within a year.
Sisi explained that the development project is more related to investments in the field of shipping, unloading and vessel maintenance, all besides the establishment of an international tourism and shopping hub at the Suez Bay.
The conference shall also discuss land reclamation projects across million feddans as well as other industrial undertakings in Upper Egypt, the Red Sea and Marsa Alam, west of of the country.
Saudi Arabia has been a major political supporter of the 2013 uprising that ousted Morsy and brought Sisi to presidency. The oil-rich kingdom as also contributed billions of dollars in aid to Egypt to shore up its economy affected by political turmoil.
