President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was granted an honorary doctorate degree on Thursday during his current visit to the Serbian capital, Belgrade, from the University of Belgrade, Bassam Rady, official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, said.
President of Belgrade University, the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development and members of the University board expressed their pride in Sisi’s visit to the University.
Board members said that the decision to grant Sisi an honorary doctorate came because he had a role in leading Egypt during a difficult period of turmoil to a new stage of development and construction, with the deep structural reforms launched at the national level in the economic and social fields, in addition to major national projects that he initiated and built in various sectors of the state, which contributed significantly to improving services provided to Egyptian citizens.
University officials praised the president’s efforts to develop Egyptian education, especially by maximizing spending on basic education and raising the level of higher education through a series of fundamental reform projects, including the establishment of a number of technological and technical universities and the development of curricula to keep pace with the latest international standards and to comply with labor market needs.
Rady explained that the university officials also referred to the influential and tangible role Sisi played in strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Serbia, especially at the academic and cultural levels, which comes as an extension of the historical relations between the two countries within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Sisi worked to encourage investments through the inauguration the Egyptian-Serbian Business Forum and the Egyptian-Serbian Joint Business Council.
The university appreciated the effective contribution of Sisi in promoting peace and cooperation at the regional and international levels, as well as his pioneering efforts towards combating terrorism and illegal immigration, and climate change, which culminates in Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 in November in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Sisi expressed his pride in the honorary degree, dedicating it to the entire Egyptian people, being key partners in the recent achievements in Egypt on many levels.
