Sisi extends North Sinai state of emergency for another 3 months

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decree on Wednesday extending the state of emergency in North Sinai.

A state of emergency has been declared in North Sinai since October 2014, after 33 security personnel were killed in an attack at a checkpoint in North Sinai. Since then, Sisi has extended the state of emergency every three months.

The state of emergency includes the areas of Rafah hill to al-Awga in the east, from west of al-Arish to al-Halal mountain in the west, from west of Arish to the Rafah border in the north and al-Halal mountain to Awga in the south. A night curfew has been imposed in these areas from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

According to the decree, the armed forces and the police must use all necessary means to confront terrorism and to protect citizens and public and private property. Whoever violates presidential orders will be sentenced to prison, according to the decree.
