Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) will convene within few days, with attendance of Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to select his successor as well as the chief of staff of the armed forces, informed sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Sources added that Sisi will declare his final decision to the council on running for president and leaving his position as the the commander-in-chief and minister of defense and military production. He will reveal his electoral platform by the second half of February in a speech that will be aired on state TV and other privately-owned channels. He will also speak to his reasons for running in the elections.
In other news, Al-Masry Al-Youm was informed that Sami Anan, former chief of staff of the armed forces, is planning on running to president and that he allocated LE50 million for his campaign and that he has communication with several public figures and politicians affiliated to the former regimes including the disbanded National Democratic Party and Muslim Brotherhood in order to form his electoral team.
Sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Hamdeen Sabbahi, Popular Current Chief, had not decided yet about running for elections or not, especially that most of political forces support Sisi.
The sources also referred to conflicts within the Popular Current, causing Sabbahi to be hesitant about his decision to run.
