Sisi celebrates International Day of Disabled Persons

 

A celebration for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being held Monday in the presence of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and a some artists and public figures.

The event will be held at the al-Manara International Conferences Center at the Fifth Settlement, organized by the Egyptian Sports Federation for Mental Disabilities and featuring participation from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

The festival will be attended by a number of artists including Ashraf Abdel Baki, Amir Shaheen and Amr Youssef. Dina Samir Ghanim will also perform a song during the concert.

A number of successful disabled role-models will be honored after the opening of the exhibition showcasing what they’ve achieved.

Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been annually observed on 3 December around the world.

It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of their situations in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The theme for this year’s IDPD is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.

This theme focuses on empowering persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
