Sisi asserts necessity of maintaining joint coordination between Egypt, China

CAIRO, Jan 14 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi asserted Egypt is very proud of its relations with China, which are based on the principles of mutual respect and common interests.

Sisi stressed Egypt is supporting the one-China principle and maintaining joint coordination to promote peace and stability at the international level.

The president’s remarks were made while receiving Chinese Foreign Minister and Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Wang Yi on Sunday, in presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the Chinese ambassador in Cairo along with a number of senior Chinese officials.

Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said in statements following the meeting that the Chinese foreign minister handed over a message from the Chinese president to Sisi in which he congratulated him on his reelection for a new presidential term.

The message also included China’s utmost keenness on supporting multifaceted strategic partnership between the two countries and commended the Egyptian role in enhancing security, stability and development in the Middle East region, added Fahmi.

The meeting discussed ways of fostering joint cooperation frameworks and mechanisms for carrying out more joint economic development projects at the bilateral level and within the framework of the “Brics” membership and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI, or B&R).

The spokesman added the two parties exchanged viewpoints regarding the latest developments at the international and regional levels, with special focus on the never-ceasing escalation in the region against the backdrop of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.

Sisi underlined the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza to protect the civilians.

The Chinese official agreed with the Egyptian stand in this regard and hailed Egypt’s role at both the political and humanitarian tracks.

The spokesman said Egypt and China stressed the necessity of abiding by international law and the complete rejection of forced displacement of the Palestinians. (MENA)
