Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday approved an amendment to the grant aid agreement between Egypt and the United States.
The Official Gazette published Sisi’s decision on resolution no. 697 of 2020, regarding the approval of the fourth amendment to the aid grant agreement between Cairo and Washington regarding stimulating trade and investment in Egypt.
The agreement was signed between Egypt and the United States governments June of 2020. Under it, roughly US$90 million in funds have been allocated to Egypt as contributions through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
A total of six amendments have been proposed, all of which will support programming in the areas of higher education, basic education, joint US-Egypt science and technology cooperation, health, trade and investment, and agriculture.
Egypt is the second largest recipient of foreign assistance from the US, after Israel.
