Sisi affirms continued Egyptian efforts to achieve ceasefire in Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid

CAIRO, Aug 8 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm and unwavering support for brotherly Palestinian people, reaffirming Egypt’s continued intensive efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid to the population, work toward release of hostages and detainees as well as firmly rejecting displacement of Palestinians from their land.

During a phone call President al-Sisi received Friday from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president voiced sincere gratitude and appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian cause and for the continued humanitarian assistance provided by Egypt to the Palestinian people, especially in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed al-Shenawy.

The spokesman added that the Palestinian president praised Egypt’s strong stand against the displacement of the Palestinian people, affirming that the State of Palestine stands alongside Egypt – its leadership, army, government and people – in confronting any attempts to undermine its security and stability.

Abbas also warned of the dangers of the decision taken Thursday by the Israeli government to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its population to the south, describing it as a new crime that adds to the series of Israeli violations in the West Bank, including Al Quds (East Jerusalem), the spokesman said.

The Palestinian president stressed his determination to continue political action at all levels, including the UN Security Council, the Arab League (AL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to mobilize regional and international support against these plans, he added.

The spokesman noted that Abbas, during the call, emphasized the need for the State of Palestine to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip, underscoring the importance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, the delivery of humanitarian aid, Palestinian assumption of security responsibilities with Arab and international support, along with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip – ensuring unity of governance, law, and legitimate arms under the umbrella of the Palestinian State.
