President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will address the universitarian community on Sunday from Cairo University. He is expected to urge professors and students to abandon violence and focus on scientific research.
High security measures have been imposed on all of the university gates, that were closed except for the main one.
More than 2,500 persons including faculty members, university presidents and students have been invited to attend the speech, sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm. Sisi will honor the top students.
Several former state heads gave speeches from the university’s Grand Celebrations Hall including King Farouq, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Anwar al-Sadat, Hosni Mubarak and Mohamed Morsy.
US President Barack Obama, former French President Jacques Chirac, Nilson Mandela and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also gave speeches from the hall.
A wave of fierce confrontations between security services and Muslim Brotherhood students took place last year. Many students were detained during the violent incidents.
