Shura Council asks SCAF resolve Ceramica Cleopatra problem

The Shura Council has called on the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the Cabinet to immediately resolve the problem of the workers of Ceramica Cleopatra in Suez, and to take quick action to curb what it considered a "provocation" from the owner of the factory, Mohamed Abul Enein, who threatened to set the whole of Suez on fire.

During the evening session of the Shura Council on Monday, the deputies, especially those of Suez, said Abul Enein did not abide by the agreements made in the presence of a SCAF representative, and called on SCAF to detain him.

MP Tharwat Atallah said that Abul Enein considers himself above Parliament and the military council, and that no action was taken against him so far, warning that the 5,800 workers of his factory are a “time bomb” that could explode.

The MP added that Abul Enein provoked the workers when he fired shots from his gun, which prompted the workers to bring guns in order to protect themselves.

MP Osama Saad wondered how the SCAF has not taken action against Abul Enein who masterminded the “Battle of the Camel” and stole Egypt’s resources, as he put it.

He called for filing a lawsuit against him for blackmailing the workers so as to put an end to this “farce.”

Sayed Hozayen, chair of the Agricultural Committee, called for Abul Enein’s arrest, while Ali Fath al-Bab, the majority leader, said Abul Enein went back on his promises, and warned that the crisis in Suez could escalate.

The council agreed to talk to the SCAF to solve the problem.

Meanwhile, Suez district attorney Ahmed Abdel Halim is summoning Abul Enein for investigation of communication on charges of displacing the workers by closing down the factory in Sokhna, and threatening the national economy.

Suez Security Director Adel Rifaat said he received Abdel Halim’s order to summon Abul Enein.
