Shubra al-Kheima Criminal Court jails former footballer for drug trafficking

 

A former football player was handed 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a LE 150,000 fine by Shubra al-Kheima Criminal Court for drug trafficking.

Shubra al-Kheima police reported that the football player was caught in possession of 4.5 kilograms of cannabis.

According to further investigation the defendant, identified only as “Y.M”, played football for different clubs and owns a cafe in Shubra al-Kheima which he used to promote and sell drugs.

After obtaining a permit from public prosecution, the defendant was arrested. According to the police, the cannabis were found in his possession during arrest.

A claim was filed with the incident and the defendant was referred to trial.

Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali announced in January that the rate of drug addiction in Egypt is twice the global rates, at 10 percent of the population.
