Shoukry calls Burhan, Dagalo

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held two phone calls on Thursday with Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, the Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry stressed in his contacts with the two sides Egypt’s deep concern over the continued military confrontations, the resulting innocent victims and exposing the security and stability of Sudan to serious risks. He called for an immediate ceasefire in order to preserve the capabilities of the brotherly Sudanese people and uphold the supreme national interest, the spokesman said.

Shoukry asserted that Egypt will spare no effort to stand by Sudan in this dangerous and unprecedented ordeal, and that the Egyptian people are suffering just like the Sudanese people due to the ongoing fighting which requires the need for all parties to abide by the truce to provide humanitarian relief operations and medical assistance to those in need as well as provide protection for civilians.

He underlined Egypt’s firm position as regards respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs. All diplomatic contacts and efforts currently undertaken by Egypt are based on these determinants and aim to help Sudan overcome this ordeal and provide a favorable atmosphere to resolve differences through dialogue, the spokesman added.
