Shooting in Arish, recruit injured

A recruit from Egypt's security forces was injured on Tuesday morning by gunfire at Romana police station in Arish's Bear al-Abd neighbourhood.

According to a security source, the 22-year old recruit suffered a gunshot wound to the pelvis and was rushed to hospital to receive treatment.

Heavy gunfire was also heard early Tuesday, following days of hit-and-run clashes between gunmen and security forces guarding the North Sinai radio building close by.

The shooting lasted for over two hours. No casualties were reported.

Residents in Masa’eed, largely university students and expatriates, were reportedly terrified by the incident.

Masa’eed witnesses shootings on a daily basis, while authorities struggle to identify or arrest those responsible.
