Egyptian Coptic Pope Shenouda III said he was glad that the armed forces are now in charge of the country and called on citizens to help the army restore calm to Egypt.
Pope Shenouda told state-run television on Sunday that the armed forces known for their seriousness and that this quality has characterized their recent statements, which were based on the people’s demands.
Speaking of the nationwide protests that led to President Hosni Mubarak's recent resignation, the pope added that, while some protested about constitutional and legal issues, others were calling for improvements in living standards, wages and unemployment. He urged that the unemployed be put to work on projects beneficial to the country.
Shenouda said he will talk about peace during his coming weekly sermon.
