Shariqya factory blaze joins list of October fires

Fires on Wednesday ravaged al-Arabiya electronics factory in 10th of Ramadan city, Shariqya Governorate. Criminal investigations concluded an electrical short circuit was the cause.

Most of the buildings on the premises were set ablaze, according to sources. Preliminary estimates put losses at LE3 million.

Twenty-eight fire engines immediately rushed to the accident site and engaged in a six-hour battle to quell the fires.

The factory is owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Lotfy. Prosecution services summoned a number of factory staff to deliver their accounts.

October has witnessed nine fires that have claimed five lives and LE60 million in losses. Three industrial fires took place this week alone.

A blaze at the Alexandria Petroleum Company earlier this month resulted in an estimated LE30 million in losses. That fire required 27 respondent fire trucks and 14 hours to extinguish.
