The severed head of a man kidnapped by the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS) has been found in the street in the Hurriyah neighborhood of Rafah city.
The terrorist group has been killing both civilians in Arish, Rafah, and Shaikh Zowaied for “co-operating with army and police forces” in their anti-terrorism operations in North Sinai.
People in the city recognized the victim as Mohamed Salama Mubarak. The 30-year-old mane was kidnapped by ISIS a while ago.
The killing of Mohamed brings the number of civilians killed by ISIS during the past week to 10.
The head has been transferred to the mortuary at Rafah General Hospital for inspection by forensic scientists and investigators working on the case..
Egyptian military and security forces have been battling a mounting insurgency in Sinai since the removal of former President Mohamed Morsi in June 2013.
Militants linked to ISIS frequently conduct ambushes, mortar attacks and roadside bombs in the North Sinai governorate. Security forces are often the target, and reports of attacks on security personnel and conscripts are a weekly occurrence.
Terrorists have also engaged in a large number of kidnappings and assassinations, including of police personnel and justice officials.
