A truck illegally carrying seven tons of subsidized diesel was seized in West Qantara, Ismailia, while attempting to cross the Suez Canal to Sinai, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
The General Department of Food Supply Investigation, in cooperation with the police, confiscated the diesel and arrested the driver.
For almost a year, Egypt has faced a diesel and gas crisis. The government has repeatedly claimed that the problem is caused by the black market.
The military-appointed cabinet led by Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri has been much criticized for its handling of the situation. Before the presidential elections, the Muslim Brotherhood's lawmakers planned to withdraw confidence in the cabinet, in part due to what they have called leaders' "invention" of the fuel crisis.
