Senate speaker says Egypt, Slovenia ties strong

CAIRO, April 16 (MENA) – Senate Speaker Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek said Wednesday relations between Egypt and Slovenia are strong, noting the two countries are keen on further developing them.

This came during a meeting in his office Wednesday with Speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly Urška Klakočar Zupančič, and her accompanying delegation, who are visiting Egypt from April 14 to 17.

During the meeting, Abdel-Razek said relations in the parliamentary and legislative fields between the two countries are important, expressing his hope for the formation of parliamentary friendship committees between the two councils to consolidate ties and continue consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Abdel-Razek praised Slovenia’s distinguished and supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, most notably its recognition of the Palestinian state in May 2024 and its vote in favor of UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions calling for a ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Egypt rejects the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, speaker Abdel-Razek said, noting the Slovenian official thanked the Egyptian side for the warm welcome.

Zupančič praised the development Egypt is witnessing at all levels under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, noting the presence of many promising sectors in the Egyptian economy and market.

The speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly praised Egypt’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, stressing that Slovenia strongly supports the Egyptian state’s efforts to stop the war in Gaza.

She also expressed her rejection of attempts at forced displacement, which constitute a violation of international and humanitarian law in general, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities in this regard. (MENA)
