Security sources: Al-Tawhid Wal Jihad involved in Arish police station bombing

Security agencies, in coordination with the Armed Forces, have expanded security measures in the east of Arish, Sheikh Zuweid and south and west of Rafah, while military aircrafts hover over the area after the Arish police station was bombed on Sunday, killing six policemen, including the chief detective and civilians.

The forensic report said TNT and C-4 explosives were used in the blast, the same materials that were used in the bombings of the Daqahlia, Cairo and South Sinai security directorates.

Security sources believe Al-Tawhid Wal Jihad and Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, both considered terrorist organizations, were likely involved in the bombing.

The sources added that the bombing of the police station destroyed the outer fence, parts of the building, the furniture, as well as arms and ammunition. Additionally, 70 houses nearby had their facades collapse, while dozens of other houses were less heavily damaged.

Witnesses said gunmen arrived and exchanged fire with the police forces. On the southern side of the police station, a suicide bomber drove a truck towards the gate of the station, despite taking fire from police, until the truck hit the gate and exploded, causing a hole 12 meters around and 3 meters deep. They also said the gunmen filmed the attack before they escaped.
