Further security reinforcements were dispatched to North Sinai on Saturday morning, said security sources on Saturday.
The sources said that the armed forces imposed tight security measures in the areas of Nakhl, Nuweiba, Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuwaid, as well as the international roads and byways in Sinai.
The North Sinai security directorate has developed a plan to track down law breakers in coordination with the security directorates of South Sinai, Suez and Ismailia, said the sources, noting that this includes combing entrances and exits of North Sinai, and all roads connecting Sinai with other governorates.
The same sources said that Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy ordered Assistant Interior Minister for Public Security Ahmed Gamal to dispatch police to checkpoints that have been attacked during the last few days by armed groups. The Reessa checkpoint, east of the entrance to Arish, was subject to three attacks by militants.
Major General Saleh al-Masry, head of North Sinai security directorate, inspected security sites and announced a state of emergency in anticipation of further attacks by outlaws who might use the border tension to target important places and institutions.
Crackdowns in Arish continued for the sixth day, where security forces seek to root out jihadist elements.
Eyewitnesses told Al-Masry Al-Youm there was a large number of central security cars and tanks in North Sinai on Saturday morning.
