Although the police used to work to protect the regime of Hosni Mubarak, they now work only to protect Egyptians, a security official said on Monday.
At a meeting with a National Accord Conference committee in Abbasseya, Ahmed Gamal, head of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's Public Security Authority, said security can be achieved only through cooperation between citizens and police.
He added that no security body in the world is capable of establishing security without the help of the people.
The committee members said that to restore Egyptians' confidence in the police, the Interior Ministry should firmly handle any violations committed by either police or citizens.
