Prosecutors are investigating telephone calls where unknown people allegedly threaten to burn down the office of Muslim Brotherhood deputy leader Khairat al-Shater, according to a judicial source.
The source told Turkish news agency Anadolu that workers at Shater’s office in Nasr City filed a complaint with police over the threats.
The source added that security measures near the office and surveillance have been intensified while prosecutors investigate the threats.
Some protesters during Friday demonstrations against President Mohamed Morsy and the Muslim Brotherhood, including preacher Mohamed Abdallah Nasr and and several other activists, had called on protesters to besiege Shater's house, although none were quoted as calling for it to be burned down.
Shater, a father of 10 whose businesses range from computers to furniture, spent years in and out of jail under Mubarak, who banned the Brotherhood and periodically rounded up its members.
