Security forces arrested 10 people while hundreds of protesters attempted to storm the Damanhour Police Station for the third consecutive day during protests against President Mohamed Morsy.
Protesters burned tires and threw stones and Molotovs at security forces securing the Delta city's station, who fired tear gas at the crowd in clashes that lasted until 3 am Tuesday morning. Among the protesters were families of detainees who were arrested in previous attempts to break into the station.
The arrested suspects will be held for four days pending investigations.
Meanwhile, a hospital in Damanhour received three injured security personnel. The hospital's director, Ehab al-Ghoneimy said that the three were injured by stones and Molotovs but left the hospital after being treated.
Ehab Abu Eita, head of the Bandar Damanhour Prosecution, had previously ordered 18 detained for four days after a similar attempt to storm the police station.
Another three people were also detained for assaulting police who were guarding the jewellers' district in Damanhour.
