Security forces break up Titan Cement sit-in

Central Security Forces stormed the Titan Cement company in Dekheila, west Alexandria Sunday, breaking up a two-week sit-in and freeing 14 employees being detained by striking workers.

Security forces arrested 87 of them and referred them to the prosecution, while the workers' family members blocked the Dekheila port road in response.

The workers had been staging a sit-in to demand employment on permanent contracts. A similar strike has been ongoing at Ain Sokhna Port for more than a week but looks set to end soon.

Nasser al-Abd, Alexandria's investigations chief, said the temporary workers' demands for permanent contracts were legitimate, but accused them of endangering the lives of the 14 workers they detained.
