Security forces arrest “chief suspect” in Kerdasa violence

Security forces have arrested Saeed al-Zinary, alleged to be one of the chief suspects in the Kerdasa police station massacre.

A security source said on Monday that forces are continuing operations in Kerdasa to arrest all suspects for alleged roles in violence that erupted in Kerdasa last week.

On Sunday, 24 defendants were detained for 15 days pending investigations into charges of involvement in the Kerdasa violence.

Three defendants were also sent down for one day imprisonment pending investigation on charges of breaking into the Kerdasa police department and killing 11 officers in mid-August. The bloody break-in followed the dispersal of the sit-ins staged by supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsy in Rabaa al-Adaweya and Giza's al-Nahda Square last month.

Shooting had taken place last week in the town Kerdasa, north Giza, as security forces invaded the town, leading to the death of Nabil Farag, deputy head of the Giza Security Directorate, and injuries to nine other officers and two recruits.
