Security forces arrested 40 people in five governorates during the month of August on charges of blocking roads and railways, and hampering work at state institutions.
Prosecutors ordered the continued detention of 18 people for blocking a road in Bulaq Abul Ela, Cairo, on 3 August and another four people for blocking a road close to the presidential palace on 6 August.
Three people were imprisoned for blocking the movement of trains in the township of Kom Hamada, Beheira Governorate, on 13 August. Another four were imprisoned for the same crime in Shubra al-Kheima, Qalyubiya, and two others for blocking the Cairo-Monouf train, both on 17 August.
Eight were imprisoned for blocking a road in the Raml neighborhood in Alexandria on 23 August.
The Public Prosecution released 53 others who had been accused in other incidents. Authorities are searching for 37 they suspect of involvement in similar violations.
