The Culture Ministry might cancel the 2011 Cairo International Film Festival, the festival president said Tuesday.
It would be difficult to hold the festival as usual in November, festival President Ezzat Abu Ouf, who has headed the event since 2007, told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The film festival is the biggest international cinematic event in Egypt and draws hundreds of foreign guests. Launched in 1976, it is considered one of the ten most renowned cinema festivals in the world.
Abu Ouf said security conditions are not suitable for the festival, and it has yet to attract any sponsors.
He has said 2010 was one of the event's best years because of its superior films and the international movie stars who attended.
