Security breaks up Brotherhood female protests in Al-Azhar

Cairo police dispersed on Sunday protests by female students loyal to former president Mohamed Morsy, continuing the standoff between security and anti-government students in place since Morsy’s ouster in 2013 that left some students killed and several others prosecuted.

Police broke up protests by girls from Al-Azhar University in Nasr City. Sources at the university said the girls used fireworks during their protests and chanted anti-police slogans.

University president Abdel Hayy Azab said during a tour inside the campus on Sunday that “there is no place for saboteurs inside Al-Azhar University,” referring to the Morsy-loyalists.
