Security arrests international gang in Cairo

Security forces in Cairo arrested 11 suspects from Columbia, Venezuela, and Mexico on charges of theft. The accused allegedly stole gold jewellery and electronic equipment from Cairo's eastern suburbs and smuggled the merchandise into Israel via the Taba border crossing.

According to investigations, a Venezuelan national formed the 11-member gang. One of the members is an Israeli resident.

The investigations stemmed from multiple reports of burglary in the Cairo districts of Nasr City, Heliopolis, and Nozha. Authorities discovered that the thefts were carried out in the same way and eye witnesses said they saw groups of foreign speaking men and women at the scene of the crimes.

Six Mexicans, four Colombians, and a Venezuelan, two of whom were arrested in an apartment in the district of Agouza, form the gang. The two apprehended in Agouza said they perpetrated the thefts with five others.

They also said their gang settled in Cairo a while ago and chose the richest and quietest districts for their operation. Investigations reveal the gang has carried out 20 thefts.
